Points Based System


The new 5 Tier Points Based System for the UK immigration of non EEA migrants replaces the current work permit arrangements for skilled migrants and temporary workers.

The new five tier points based immigration system will be phased in throughout 2008 - 2009.
Each Tier contains a number of smaller subcategories with additional specific requirements.

Any existing work permits entry clearance or further leave to remain on the basis of the current work permit system continued until the end of November 2008.
After that period any recruitment of non EEA migrants, work permits entry clearance or further leave to remain will be subject to the new 5 tier points based system .

Potential candidates and sponsoring company or organisation should note that the future timelines and requirements set out below are are subject to change by the Border and Immigration Agency.

 
Work Permit Categories for Highly skilled workers, Investors Entrpreneuers or Graduates closed on the 29th June 2008, applicants have been able to apply under the new category since 30th June 2008 .
