Compulsory ID Cards

The UK Government have extended an compulsory initiative starting on 6th January 2009 for foreign nationals including dependents will under Tier 2 to be issued with ID cards. Migrants must provide biometric samples including photogrsphs fingerprints are stored on the ID card and the Government computer system. The Government aim of introducing ID cards has stated that it will make it easier to identify and assess a migrants UK work and study eligibility. The UK identity card provides the following information: Nationality Identity – Name, date of birth, etc. Immigration status in the UK –right to work, study The initiative will be applied to all tiers on a piecemeal basis starting with Tier 2 and by April 2011 all migrants in the UK applying to extend their UK visa for more than six months will be required to have an ID Card as part of their application. The current exceptions from the changes are those with indefinite leave to remain, applying for indefinite leave to remain and the other categories. |
